One More Day in Texas

OK, we shouldn't have eaten at that Chinese restaurant yesterday.  Apparently Mom ate something bad and was up all night throwing up.  Sorry, no pictures.  We will be staying another day.

Sunday in Sanger

We went to Mass this morning, had lunch at a Chinese buffet and did a little sightseeing around Denton which is the next town south of Sanger.  Now we are having a quiet afternoon at the campground.  It is a very nice campground, the new owners have only had it a couple of years but I guess they have really worked on it and fixed it up.   Here are a few pictures from the campground.

They raise some Alpacas here, but I haven't gotten any close up shot of them yet.

It has an old west theme of course, this is the laundry building.

This used to be an old barn, now it is the office and the owners' home.

Local legend has it that this well was originally used by travelers on the Chisholm Trail.

Another view of the office.

The drive down to here from Oklohoma city had some very senic spots to stop and look, here are a few pictures.

After publishing this blog, google added this panarama made from the previous photos, so I thought I would add it.

We plan on starting back to Sioux City in the morning and we will probably take a few days to get home again.

We Did It

Tuesday we stayed overnight in Oklahoma City, OK.  Wednesday morning we drove on to Sanger, TX just north of Dallas.  We met the couple selling the motorhome and went over everything in it.  We decided to go ahead with the deal, and we all went to lunch while the banks transferred the money.  Then we got brave and drove it to a local campground.  We had a few problems setting up, but they were going to pick us up for supper anyway, so they came over early and we found a tripped breaker that was causing the problem.  We all went to an interesting restaurant called Babes for supper.  Our RV driving school instructor is coming over after lunch today to start our lessons.  Here are a few pictures:

Still in Sioux City

I haven't been updating this blog lately while we are in Sioux City, we have been busy catching up with friends and doing projects around the house and spending a little time with Rebecca's family.  On Sunday afternoon, Kath, Don and Rosalie came up and we had lunch and a nice visit at Bacon Creek Park.  Janice has been finding some time to do some sewing.
Last summer we found a motorhome in Anniston, Al that we really liked the floor plan but the price was too high.  We have been watching some similar ones for sale on the internet and have finally found one in good condition with low mileage that we were able to get the price down on.  So... we are headed for Sanger, Texas in the Jeep tomorrow morning.  If it turns out to be as advertised, we will be towing the Jeep back home with it. We have arranged to get some RV driving classes while we are there before we head home.  That should make us a little more confident driving a 40 foot diesel.  Wish us luck!

Back in Sioux City

On Wednesday, we got back to Sioux City, but we weren't ready to go home yet, so we stayed at the campground in South Sioux across the river.  We drove the Jeep over to see Rebecca's family.  Yesterday we came on home and have been catching up on things here and visiting with Rebecca's family.  We plan to be here for a month or so.

Platte, SD

We took the scenic drive down to Platte from Gettysburg yesterday.  The road runs near the Missouri river dam system, so you have a lot of scenic views of the hills and lakes.

We stopped for lunch at Chamberlain where we walked down a little trail from a scenic overlook.  Even with this sign, Janice joined me on the trail!

It was a short walk, but a nice view.

This picture doesn't show what a high point of land that she was standing out on!

We are now about 165 miles from Sioux City, so I guess we probably will have to go home today.

Gettysburg, SD

We had a short drive this afternoon after we left Bismarck, about 175 miles to the South Whitlock Resort at near Gettysburg, SD.  Here is a picture of the sunset at the campground.

Here are a couple of pictures of the boys that I forgot that I had.

And by Rebecca's special request, a picture of Brendan to prove that he is still alive.  Sorry I didn't get the request soon enough to have him hold up a current newspaper.

Saturday afternoon we had a special request from Angela for fried beef heart (not bee fart), so we took over her kitchen and fried up 3 beef hearts.

Our Last Night in Bismarck

This morning we went to Mass with Angela's family and Brendan.  After Mass, Angela's family went to Minot for the afternoon, and we had lunch with Brendan and Zuli at TGI Fridays.  Zuli had to go to work, so Brendan spent the afternoon with us.  He and I went geocaching for awhile.  Angela called when they got back to town and we all went to supper.  I took a picture of the sunset while I was waiting for everyone to line up for a picture.

As usual when trying to take a picture of a tired family, not everyone will smile at the same time.

We are leaving Bismarck tomorrow, we have had a great time here, but the road calls.  We have noticed that many businesses have the following sign here, they cannot get enough workers here where they are competing with the oil drilling companies for wages.

Some Pictures

I am finally sitting down and putting some recent pictures on here.  We are enjoying our time here in Bismarck.  Last Friday we drove the Jeep up to Minot and spent the weekend with Kath and Don.  They have a really nice house there and we had a great weekend catching up and enjoying some good food.  Kath made me one of her apple pies (just like Mom used to make!).  Angela and Thomas joined us on Sunday at Mass and we all went out to lunch afterward.  We spend most days here at Angela's house and usually see Brendan in the evening.  Wednesday night Brendan and Zuli took us out to a nice restaurant.  Temperatures here have been pleasant, but it is predicted to hit mid 90s today.

These pictures are from back when we were in DesMoines.

Andrea had a slide for us to take to Rebecca's

And here are a few from Sioux City.

This is Angela holding her plate of cheese buttons, a local food here in Bismarck.  It seems to be a square of pasta with a seasoned cottage chees mixture in it, and covered with a cream sauce.

Well, I guess thats all for now.
