Tucumcari, NM

Our adventure continues. Last night as the temperature was supposed to drop into the teens, I thought it  would be a good idea to plug in the engine heater on the motor home. To get to the plug, I had to remove the bikes from the bike rack and open the rear access doors on the motorhome. There is a convenient outlet there to plug it into. Of course on this trip, the outlet is dead. I dug out a long extension cord and plugged it into the campground outlet. In the morning I noticed a puddle of antifreeze on the ground. Both ends of one of the radiator hoses was leaking. I unscrewed and removed a panel to access one end of the hose and tightened both hose clamps. Seems to be staying dry now. Very cold when we headed out this morning. The motor home was sluggish on the hills and the check engine light would come on near the top of the hills. I thought that maybe it was the diesel fuel jelling up because of the cold, but it continued. We made it to Amarillo and stopped for fuel. The fuel pumps at the station were very slow (The trucker ahead of us said that it took 30 min for him to get 10 gallons). Some workers came out and had everyone stop fueling while they reset the system and built up pressure again. Success! A long wait, but we did get to fill up. Next stop was the Cummins dealer to check out the check engine light. By this time I suspected plugged fuel filters as we had a similar problem several years ago. That was the problem, so they replaced them for us. It was late in the afternoon, but we decided to drive on to Tumcumcari, NM. We are going to be here at the Mountain Road RV park for two nights so we can go to All Saints Day Mass tomorrow and have a quiet day. Supposed to be a low of 32 degrees tonight and 53 tomorrow. I had hoped to be in warmer overnight weather by now.

Sayre, OK

We are stopped for the night at the Bobcat Creek RV park in Sayre, OK. It is a small RV park, but the office will deliver supper to your site for $14.00. Tonight's choices were catfish or shrimp. Neither of us were hungry enough for that though. The temperature is suppose to dip down to 21 degrees overnight here. We are looking forward to the predicted sunshine tomorrow after several days of rain and clouds.

Tulsa, OK

Driving for most of the afternoon in a drizzle, we stopped in Tulsa, OK for the night. We are parked at a Camping World store. They allow RVs to overnight here free and even have electric hook ups! The rain has continued since we parked here. Glad to be off the road. It is currently 39 degrees here and that is the expected overnight low.

On the Road Again

Repair shop said three weeks to get a new jack, so we had them cap off the disconnected line and we will fix it down the road somewhere. We are headed south to avoid the predicted snow tomorrow.

Two Steps Forward, One Step Back

Our time spent at the country music festival was fun and interesting. Our first time volunteering in the music world and we met some new friends. Our job was to help set up chairs, monitor supplies in the restrooms and keeping all but the main entrance door closed. Most of our time was spent closing doors that were either not closed tight when people left or deliberately propped open to let people in that were supposed to be using the main door. The enjoyable part was listening to the musicians all day. We helped clean up on Sunday night and drove to Sioux City on Monday the 7th. Back in Sioux City we had a few appointments and as always some maintenance work to do as well as getting to spend some time with our family there. A little over 2 weeks passed quickly and on Thursday we hit the road for Arizona. After a late start, we decided to overnight in Kansas City. Friday morning we planned to head down to Pittsburg, KS to spend a couple of days visiting a couple of friends that we met a few years ago in Texas. When we tried to raise our jack to leave, the front one would not come up and oil was pouring out of it. Our only solution was to crawl under the motor home and remove it. We called the factory and they recommended an RV and truck repair shop in Kansas City. The shop could not get us in until Tuesday, so we made the appointment and headed on to Pittsburg after a trip to Walmart for kitty litter to clean up the mess we had made. We enjoyed our visit with them as usual and now we are back in Kansas City parked outside the repair shop and plugged into their electric outlet ready for our appointment tomorrow. Hopefully repairs will not take too long, as the nights are getting colder and snow is predicted this week here. We are not on a tight schedule to get to Arizona, so we shouldn't have to travel in bad weather though.

A drone picture that I took at the music festival showing the RV's  and the arena.

Fremont, NE

Our month in North Dakota flew by as always. It seems like our days are filled with activities and the month is gone before we know it. When we were getting ready to leave yesterday, we found out that one our our Jeep tires was leaking. The tire shop next to the campground was able to fix it, but we had a late start on the day. We drove to Mitchell, SD and spent the night in the RV lot at the Cabela's store there. Today we got an early start and drove to Fremont, NE. We are in the camping lot next to the Christensen Field Arena. We will be here until Monday volunteering at the National Old Time Country and Bluegrass Festival. We have been looking forward to this opportunity. We have had rain all day and it continues tonight.
