Across the Bay

Today Mom conquered her two worst fears down here and we drove through the tunnel under part of the bay out to an island and across a long bridge the rest of the way across the bay. Here is the entrance to the tunnel.  Yea Mom!!

Coming back across, we took a smaller tunnel.  Good job Mom!

Here is a picture of the cruise ship that had the fire and had to be towed in.  They unloaded it here and are repairing it here.  Hopefully we can get closer and get a better picture later.

Here are some more of the beautiful trees that I talked about before.

Local Trees

There are some beautiful trees here. These are along the street that I walk down to get to the library.  Sorry about the low resolution, but the wifi upload speed here is terrible.

The limbs are covered with some type of fern that eventually turns into spanish moss from what the locals tell me.  The trees are called "live oaks".  They have a leaf like a willow tree and they stay green all year round.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_oak.

Still in Mobile

I forgot to mention in my last post that we are going to stay in Mobile for a month.  It looks like an interesting area and campground rent is cheaper by the month.  By staying longer, there is no pressure to get out and run to see something every day and you can soak up the local culture better.

I went to the big local flea market on Saturday and picked up some fruit and vegetables.  Came home and made some pico de gallo with fresh tomatos and cilantro.  We had some barbecued ribs and potatos au gratin in the freezer, so Mom fixed them last night and I made some cooked cabbage to go with them.

There is a public library about a half a mile from the campground so I try to walk over there each day and read the paper.  When it quits raining here, I will try to get some pictures of the beautiful trees around here to post.

Trip back to Georgia

Going home, we left Missouri in the middle of the state and headed down into Arkansas.  Just across the border, we turned in at an information sign and found ourselves in Mammouth Springs State Park.
There is a spring there that produces several hundred thousand gallons per minute.  During the summer there is a lake behind the dam in the pictures below, but in the winter they open the dam and drain the lake to cut down on the plants growing in the lake.  At the other end of the dam there is an electric generator in the little building that is no longer in use.

A little further down the road, we passed this interesting place along the road.

This is a little country church that we pass by each night on our way to the campground.  It always looks so quiet and peaceful.  The picture doesn't do it justice.

Mountain Grove, MO

On our way back to GA, stopped for the night at the Days Inn in Mountain Grove, MO. We had a very enjoyable time while we were in Sioux City. Thanks to all of the kids and grandkids for coming to visit! It's always enjoyable to have as many as possible get together once in awhile. We passed a tree by the interstate today that had 4 or 5 bald eagles perched in it. No place to pull over and get a picture.  Here are a couple of pictures from the restaurant Sunday.
