The Black Hills

Wednesday we had an uneventful drive from Hardin, MT to  Sturgis, SD. There was a variety of changing landscapes along the way and a nice pull through campsite was waiting for us here. Thursday we headed out for a day of sightseeing in the north part of the Black Hills checking out Sturgis, Deadwood, Lead and Spearfish. Very scenic drive through the mountains between the towns with a lot of hills and curves. We stopped for a bit by this stream. Clear, cold water with a lot of wildflowers along the bank.

Forget-Me-Nots.

Not sure what the rest of them are.

An overlook at Bridal Veil Falls.

Janice decided to climb down the rock to the creek below.

We found the Ft Meade cemetery and walked around a little bit.

Today we wanted to tour the southern half of the hills. Driving down to Mt Rushmore we had our first glance at the monument.

At the check in gate the Jeep suddenly lost oil pressure but it came back when we got moving.

Always impressive.

.
As we headed back to the Jeep, it started to rain, so with the rain plus not being sure why the Jeep was acting up we headed back to the campground. Disappointed in the day. Tomorrow we pack up and head to Murdo, SD.
