An Interesting Turn of Events

Recently one of our big concerns has been what to do with our house.  When we first hit the road, we were thinking that we would downsize into the motorhome and eventually sell the house.  Recently we have been rethinking the part about downsizing into the motorhome completely.  We seem to like having a permanent base to return to when we are in Sioux City. We would need to have a storage unit to hold some things that we are just not ready to get rid of, and someday we may be tired of the road and just want to stop for awhile.  That being said, the old house in not the one for us at this stage in our life.  All of the stairs involved with having the laundry in the basement, bedrooms and the only bathroom on the second floor would not make it a very good home if one of us began to have trouble with stairs.  We have also been looking at having to do some major repairs in the next few years...new sidewalks, tree removal, paint or siding at least.  Becca and Mark and the kids do a great job of taking care of it while we are gone, but we almost dread coming home and thinking about what work needs to be done. This brings us to last Thursday when we were riding along with Becca's family as they looked at some acreages with a realtor.  One of the homes that we looked at wasn't what they were looking for, but as I stood in the middle of the house, it hit me that it was just what we needed. It is built with concrete exterior walls, has a brand new metal roof, and they are going to drill a new well, so no major upkeep for a long time. It sits on 1 1/2 acres of land just north of Stone Park, has an attached double garage, 4 bedrooms, and a driveway big enough for the motorhome and all on one level without a step anywhere.  It is out in Plymouth County so the taxes are about half of what we are paying now, and nobody will care if the lawn is mowed or the snow is scooped when we are gone on trips. No more sewer and water bills. The backyard abuts Stone Park so no one will build behind us and it will be handy for hiking.  The price is about the same as ours will be so it should come out pretty even. We went back the next day and looked again. We both seem to be feeling that this is right for us. The only bad part is the timing as we need to leave on Monday to make our way to Florida and our commitment there so it will be long distance dealing.  This has been quite a surprise to us both but it seems to be the direction that the Lord is leading us right now.  Wish us luck on this new adventure!
