We began searching for a replacement on line and found several available. One stood out above all of the rest, it was a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. The Unlimited is 10 1/2 inches longer than the standard model and the Rubicon edition is built for rock crawling. (heavy duty axles front and back, factory air lockers on the differentials, etc). We drove about 95 miles last Monday to look at it and we liked it. We returned to pick it up on Saturday. Here are a few pictures.
The old Jeep had a hard top and this one has a soft top. We aren't sure if we will like that or not. We will probably look for a hard top for it in case we spend a winter in the cold weather again. We removed the winch, off road lights, and towing system from the old Jeep and will be putting it on the new one as soon as we can. We also ordered a roof rack system for it like the old one had (we removed the basket part from the old one but the rail part was damaged and wouldn't fit on the longer Jeep anyway). We hope to have it ready to go and leave here on April 20. After trying to be patient with the other party's insurance company for over 2 weeks (Janice talked to 16 different people at their company), we finally got paid for the old Jeep.
